Where Is Sarakiniko Located?
Sarakiniko is located on the north coast of Milos, approximately 10 minutes by car from Adamas, the island’s main port. Its proximity to major settlements makes it easily accessible for visitors staying anywhere on the island.
The road leading to Sarakiniko is paved and well-signposted. Free parking is available near the entrance, although spaces may fill quickly during high season. From the parking area, a short walk leads directly to the main rock formations and swimming areas.
Due to its accessibility, Sarakiniko Milos is one of the first beaches many travelers choose to visit.
What to Expect When Visiting
Unlike typical sandy beaches, Sarakiniko Milos features wide stretches of smooth white volcanic rock instead of traditional shorelines. The area is perfect for swimming in turquoise coves, exploring small sea caves, and even cliff jumping from selected safe spots. However, the beach has no organized facilities such as umbrellas, sunbeds, or beach bars. For this reason, bringing water, sunscreen, and suitable footwear is strongly recommended to ensure a comfortable visit.
Best Time to Visit Sarakiniko
Timing plays an important role in fully enjoying Sarakiniko Milos. Early morning offers softer light, cooler temperatures, and fewer visitors, making it ideal for photography and relaxed swimming. Late afternoon is equally magical, as the golden hour warms the white volcanic rocks and creates stunning sunset views over the Aegean.
During high season (July and August), Sarakiniko becomes particularly busy. Therefore, arriving before 9:00 AM or after 6:00 PM is strongly recommended. In contrast, the shoulder months of May, June, and September provide excellent weather, calmer waters, and a more peaceful atmosphere — arguably the best time to experience this iconic beach.
